The start of this race was delayed due to the Starter's report below. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BLUE PLANET (L Hewitson) was difficult and stubborn to load. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) In view of the Starter's report with regard to BLUE PLANET (L Hewitson), this gelding's starting stall certificate is withdrawn and it is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 7 days and until such time as it proves tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 18.10.21 to the 24.10.21. BLUE PLANET may not be presented for re-passing during this period. Trainer C Hewitson will be advised. (SL) b) CHEWBACA (G Wright) was buffeted shortly after the start. c) QUERARI'S COWBOY (*K Strydom) was hanging in from the 300m. d) At the 200m, CHEWBACA (G Wright) was bumped out by BLUE PLANET (L Hewitson) which shifted out. Thereafter, in the concluding stages, CHEWBACA (G Wright) which became unbalanced as a result of the above incident, was brushed in on 2 occasions prior to the finish. Jockey L Hewitson appeared before the Board with regard to this incident and was advised to take all reasonable measures in order to ensure that he is not a source of interference or intimidation. In assessing this incident, the Stipendiary Board took into consideration the extent of the interference, that both horses were along each other at the first point of contact and that Jockey L Hewitson was not the source of the subsequent contact between these 2 horses. Accordingly, a caution was issued to Jockey L Hewitson. e) In view of the performance of DECORATED (M V'Rensburg) (21.10 lengths, 7/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) Jockey L Hewitson signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse BLUE PLANET more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey L Hewitson struck the horse BLUE PLANET, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R750 was imposed. g) CHEWBACA (G Wright), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
