THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) ONE MORE TRICK (D Dillon) proved reluctant proceeding to the start. Assistant Trainer J Buckler acting for Trainer G S Kotzen will be advised that should this gelding behave similarly in future, it may be suspended. b) Shortly after the start, THE SARACEN (*R Venniker) stumbled badly which resulted in Apprentice R Venniker becoming severely unbalanced. c) Approaching the 1200m, ONE MORE TRICK (S Khumalo) had to ease when awkwardly placed on the heels of DEATH BLOW (*S Njokwe) which over-raced in the early and middle stages and had to ease when awkwardly placed on the inside of BOURBON BEAT (J Gates) which had attempted to acquire the lead. Jockey J Gates appeared before the Board with regard to this incident and was advised to be more decisive when attempting to race around runners and to the front. d) Trainer D Howells reported that HEAD GARDENER returned post-race with its tongue over the bit. e) Jockey M Yeni signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse HEAD GARDENER more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey M Yeni struck the horse HEAD GARDENER, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R750 was imposed. f) BOURBON BEAT (J Gates), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D Howells advised (ML). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) ONE MORE TRICK was ridden by Jockey S Khumalo (advised 18.10.21/9h07) and this gelding raced equipped with blinkers (advised 14.10.21/18h13). b) THE SARACEN raced unshod (advised 08.10.21/10h22). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) No report. SCRATCHINGS : a) RECOLLECT : Elevated temperature (Trainer - 18.10.21/7h54). Rule 53.5 applies.
