THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LUNA LIGHT (C Bantam) jumped awkwardly outwards and brushed the hindquarters of YESTERDAY (K Steyn). b) OPULENCE (A Marcus) was restless in the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 450m SWEET REPEAT (R Fourie) was directed outwards away from the heels of KLASERIE (S Khumalo). b) In view of the performance of LUNA LIGHT (C Bantam), which raced awkwardly on the bend, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. c) Jockey A Andrews was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking COSTA SMERALDA more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey A Andrews signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1000,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account Jockey A Andrews recent record in relation to this Rule, the distance over and manner in which Jockey A Andrews used his crop and the number of strikes (13) over the permissible level. d) Jockey A Marcus was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking OPULENCE more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey A Marcus signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1000,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account Jockey A Marcus' recent record in relation to this Rule, the distance over and manner in which Jockey A Marcus used his crop and the number of strikes (13) over the permissible level. e) COSTA SMERALDA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
