THE STARTER REPORTED: a) RASPBERRY BERET (S Veale) was stubborn to load. b) QUEEN MERCURY (G Wright) and JUST THE WIND (K de Melo) were restless in the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Leaving the starting stalls, Apprentice R Venniker was momentarily unbalanced when SNOW TUNE jumped awkwardly. b) PRINCESS DONELLY (A Arries) was hanging in from the 400m. c) RASPBERRY BERET (S Veale) raced greenly in the running. d) MVULAZANA (D Dillon) raced greenly in the running and was hanging in, in the straight. e) Jockey G Wright appeared before the Board and was afforded the opportunity to place on record any factors which in his opinion contributed to the poor performance of QUEEN MERCURY. In this regard, he explained that after jumping well, this filly had not shown the speed he anticipated which resulted in her failing to hold her position one out one back. Thereafter, he further explained that, this filly never travelled well in the running and when he asked for a final finishing burst, it dropped the bit and had nothing to come. When questioned regarding whether this filly felt sound in the running, Jockey G Wright confirmed that despite her poor run, he did not feel anything untoward. The Board accepted the explanation of Jockey G Wright and requested QUEEN MERCURY be examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. f) PRINCESS DONELLY (A Arries), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M N Prinsloo advised (ML). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) RASPBERRY BERET raced with a compression mask. b) JUST THE WIND was ridden by Jockey K de Melo (as a result of Jockey W Kennedy's travel complications). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) QUEEN MERCURY : Coughing. b) SNOW TUNE : Cut into left hind. c) RASPBERRY BERET : Cut into right hind. d) IMMA YA IMMA : Brush wound left hind. SCRATCHINGS : a) WINTER'S DESTINY : Mucus in trachea (Trainer 26.10.21/9h16). Rule 53.5 applies.
