THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CAPTAIN HINDSIGHT (C Habib), ROCK OF AFRICA (D De Gouveia) and TUSCAN WINTER (C Maujean) were slow into stride. b) ANNE BOLEYN (W Kennedy) was stubborn loading. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, KAYLA'S CHAMP (S Khumalo) was carried in marginally by STONE COLD (M Yeni) who in turn was carried in by CAPTAIN HINDSIGHT (C Habib) which was switched in to avoid running onto the heels of WHORLY WHORLY (*R A Venniker). b) In view of the performance of TUSCAN WINTER (C Maujean), (betting 77/100, distance 6,25 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. When afforded the opportunity to place on record any factors which may have accounted for the disappointing performance of TUSCAN WINTER, Jockey Maujean explained to the Stewards that when asked for an effort at the 600m, TUSCAN WINTER had failed to quicken and close its race off. Jockey Maujean couldn't attribute any reason for this but has advised Trainer J van Vuuren to consider the fitment of blinkers to TUSCAN WINTER in future races. c) CAPTAIN HINDSIGHT (C Habib), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A B Fortune advised (DR). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) ROCK OF AFRICA not striding out right front. b) TUSCAN WINTER examined post race, nothing obvious detected. SCRATCHED: a) SILVER TYCOON insufficient recovery time (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies). DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
