THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) MAGARI (*K Brewer) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) In the concluding stages, KHIZA (M Yeni) had to ease when awkwardly placed between THE APPEAL (*K Strydom) which shifted out and LIVING WATERS (*R Venniker) which was carried in by FEVER (W Kennedy) which was hanging in from the 300m.
In assessing this incident, the Board accepted that there were dual movements and therefore, elected not to charge Jockey W Kennedy and Apprentice K Strydom with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7. However, due to the careless nature of the riding by Jockey W Kennedy and Apprentice K Strydom, the Board was of the view that it would be inappropriate to merely deem this to be a racing incident or issue a verbal warning. Consequently, both riders were charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.4. In this regard:-
Jockey W Kennedy signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 62.2.4 in that he rode FEVER in a careless manner by failing to take the necessary corrective measures to timeously straighten his mount which was hanging in from the 300m which non-action contributed to KHIZA (M Yeni) having to ease in the concluding stages. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R2000 was imposed; and
Prior to the Board issuing a sanction for Apprentice K Strydom, he made representation with the assistance of riding master, Mr M Ball that, the Board issue a sanction of a suspension rather than a fine, which request was granted. Accordingly, Apprentice K Strydom signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 62.2.4 in that he rode THE APPEAL in a careless manner by drawing his crop in his right hand, despite this gelding hanging out from the 300m. This resulted in THE APPEAL shifting out which contributed to KHIZA (M Yeni) having to ease in the concluding stages. Consequently, a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of 7 days was imposed. (Suspension dates : 06.11.21 - 12.11.21, bdi)
b) In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning ANCIENT STATE (K de Melo), and in terms of Rule 93.1, this gelding is suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority. Trainer N Kotzen was advised. (Suspension Dates : 02.11.21 - 31.12.21, bdi)
c) FEVER (W Kennedy), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D S Bosch advised (ML).
