THE STARTER REPORTED: a) QUEEN NANDI (*C F Dicken) was slow losing two lengths. b) BELLEVARDE (J Mariba) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) BELLEVARDE (J Mariba) was reluctant to canter to the start and had to be led by a handler. Trainer J A Soma was advised that should this filly behave in a similar manner in future, it may be suspended. b) At the 50m, CORAL DAWN (M Yeni) was carried out and bumped out by BURMESE TIARA (W Kennedy), which shifted out away from the crop. Thereafter, shortly before the finish line, when racing in close quarters, BURMESE TIARA (W Kennedy) was bumped in by CORAL DAWN (M Yeni), which rolled in. Jockey W Kennedy appeared before the Board and was advised to take the necessary corrective measures to keep his mounts straight in races. c) Jockey J Mariba (BELLEVARD) accidentally dropped his crop at the 50m. d) Shortly before the finish line, Jockey M Yeni (CORAL DAWN) briefly lost control of his crop, which he managed to regain shortly thereafter. e) Apprentice C F Dicken reported that he felt something amiss with QUEEN NANDI in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. f) CORAL DAWN (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P F Matchett was charged with a contravention of Rule 8.3.1 in that he did not have available the registered colours of the owner/s of the horse MIDFIELD GIRL. Trainer P F Matchett signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R 500.00 was imposed. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) QUEEN NANDI abnormal respiratory noise and fatigued. b) DAME OF FLAMES abnormal respiratory noise. c) PASHASHA minor injury right hind after kicking stall gate.
