THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BARTHOLDI (M van Rensburg) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) RIVARINE (D De Gouveia) was slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 300m, SHANGO (*J Solomons) had to switch in to avoid running onto the heels of CELESTIAL LOVE (R Danielson), which was eased out of the race by Jockey R Danielson, who felt something amiss with this filly in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine CELESTIAL LOVE. b) AL SAKEET (C Zackey) hung in from the 250m and thereafter, shortly before the finish line, took an awkward stride. This precluded Jockey C Zackey from riding this gelding out fully to the end of the race. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) RIVARINE (D De Gouveia) hung in from the 200m. d) RIVERSTOWN (W Kennedy) hung in in the concluding stages. e) BATTLE FORCE (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P F Matchett advised (MduP). f) SHANGO (*J Solomons), unplaced, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S G Tarry advised (AH). JOCKEY CHANGES: None.
