THE STARTER REPORTED: a) HAVE A GO JO (*J Solomons) was slow into stride. b) SEA WAYS (D De Gouveia) was slow losing one length. c) VAL D'ORCIA (W Kennedy) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, IMPERIAL MASTER (*P Mxoli) and BACK TO BLACK (G Lerena) were bumped out by VAL D'ORCIA (W Kennedy) which jumped out leaving the stalls. b) BACK TO BLACK (G Lerena) shifted out away from the crop from the 300m. c) Jockey D De Gouveia reported that SEA WAYS made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Apprentice J Solomons reported that HAVE A GO JO took no interest in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) Jockey G Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking BACK TO BLACK more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey Lerena signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R2000 was imposed. When assessing the penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times Jockey Lerena struck BACK TO BLACK as well as his recent record with regard to this Rule and Guideline. f) ESKIMO PIE (C Maujean), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
