THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 250m WARRIOR BLING (G van Niekerk) shifted out slightly and brushed STRIKE SPEED (K Steyn) which became momentarily unbalanced, shifted back in away from FLY OVER (S Khumalo) and brushed WARRIOR BLING (G van Niekerk). Jockey G van Niekerk appeared before the Board, was shown the race recording and advised to be more aware of other runners when shifting ground in similar circumstances. b) Jockey S Khumalo was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking FLY OVER more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey S Khumalo signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2000,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account Jockey S Khumalo's recent record in relation to this Rule, the distance over and manner in which Jockey S Khumalo used his crop and the number of strikes (13) over the permissible level. c) FLY OVER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer VH Marshall was advised.
