THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CALIENTE (T Godden) jumped awkwardly and thereafter was slow into stride. b) VIA SALARIA (S Veale) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) BURNING WINGS (A Marcus) which over-raced in the early and middle stages, had to be restrained off heels on a number of occasions between the 1300m and the 1000m. In view of the performance of this gelding (4.25 lengths, 3/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Assistant Trainer J Buckler will be requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of this gelding on return to stables. b) TREAD SWIFTLY (D Dillon) was hanging in from the 250m. Thereafter, Jockey D Dillon reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) VIA SALARIA (S Veale) shifted out to continue its run in the concluding stages. d) In view of the performance of CALIENTE (T Godden) (3.75 lengths, 16/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) Jockey S Veale signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse VIA SALARIA more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (15) Jockey S Veale struck the horse VIA SALARIA, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R1000 was imposed. f) CHATTERTONS KEEPER (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer W Whitehead advised (ML). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) SNIPER SHOT was ridden by Jockey K de Melo (advised 17.11.21/6h58). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil.
