THE STARTER REPORTED A) FLOWER SELLER was nervous and rushed the front gate. B) COLORAMA was nervous in the stalls, was slow and lost 1 length. C) EMPRESS KI was slow away and lost 2 lengths. D) LADY ISABELLA was nervous in the stalls and slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED A) FLOWER SELLER (M V'Rensburg) was reluctant to canter to the start and had to be led by a handler. Assistant Trainer D G Smith on behalf of Trainer G D Smith was advised that should this filly behave similarly in future it may be suspended. B) LA SICARIA (J Penny) failed to muster speed in the early and middle stages. Thereafter, Jockey J Penny reported that LA SICARIA took no interest in the running. The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. C) Jockey M V'Rensburg signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline C on the use of the crop) in that he struck the horse FLOWER SELLER more than three times on consecutive strides. A penalty of a R1000 fine was imposed. D) The winner RAROTONGA was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis, Assistant Trainer A Mtengwana acting on behalf of Trainer A C Greeff advised (LM). When questioned, Assistant Trainer A Mtengwana told the Stewards that RAROTONGA (G Cheyne) had been competitive in its last race on the 15th October 2021 over 2000m and commenced to give ground over the final 400m. It was his opinion that today's distance was this filly's optimal trip and undertook to race this filly over similar distances in future. The Stewards noted his explanation. JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES A) MEADOW BEAUTY Jockey R Munger replaced Jockey C Zackey (09:28 - 19/11/2021). B) MYSTERY TRIP raced without blinkers (07:58 - 19/11/2021). C) EMPRESS KI raced equipped with alumites front, unshod behind (07:22 - 19/11/2021). D) FLOWER SELLER raced without a compression mask (07:20 - 19/11/2021). THERE WERE NO RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED A) LA SICARIA not striding out left hind. B) COLORAMA blood in mouth and scalp wound right hind. C) SKATING ON ICE blood in mouth. D) RED RUBY not striding out left fore. SCRATCHINGS A) OVERJOYED retired (11:54 - 18/11/2021).
