THE STARTER REPORTED: a) VIKRAM (S Mbhele) was restless in the stalls and got his right hind leg on the running board, was taken out, examined by the course veterinary surgeon, passed suitable to race and reloaded, causing a delay. b) BEREAVE (A Andrews) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Approaching the 50m CAPTAIN FONTANE (S Khumalo) took an awkward stride. b) Jockey G Wright, the rider of HIS CHOICE, reported this gelding took no interest in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. c) In view of the performance of SPEED MACHINE (L Mxothwa) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) In view of the report from the Starter regarding VIKRAM (S Mbhele), Trainer WA Nel will be advised to have this gelding re schooled before his next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. e) VIKRAM, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer WA Nel was advised. (TJ) f) BEREAVE, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AN Marcus was advised.
