THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) AUSTEN (S Veale) jumped awkwardly and lost 2 lengths.
b) GREATCLUBQUEEN (D Dillon) lost 1 length.
c) LUNA ECLIPSE (*R Venniker) was stubborn and difficult to load.
d) SHESAKINDA MAGIC (*S Njokwe) was stubborn to load. Trainer R Hill will be advised to re-school this filly.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) LUNA ECLIPSE (*R Venniker) proved reluctant proceeding to the start. Trainer M Roberts was advised that should this filly behave similarly in future, it may be suspended.
b) In view of the Starter's report with regard to LUNA ECLIPSE (*R Venniker), this filly's starting stall certificate is withdrawn and it is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 7 days and until such time as it proves tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 23.11.21 to the 29.11.21. LUNA ECLIPSE may not be presented for re-passing during this period. Trainer M Roberts was advised. (MS)
c) Jockey A Marcus appeared before the Board and was afforded the opportunity to place on record any factors that could have contributed to the poor performance of YATA. In this regard, Jockey A Marcus could provide no explanation for the disappointing performance other than to suggest that this filly may prefer further in future. In view of YATA (5.90 lengths, 56/100 in the betting) performing below market expectations, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
d) Apprentice S Njokwe signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse SHESAKINDA MAGIC more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (14) Apprentice S Njokwe struck the horse SHESAKINDA MAGIC, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R750 was imposed.
e) Trainer M L Roberts appeared before the Board and was questioned with regard to the improved performance of LUNA ECLIPSE. In this regard, Mr Roberts explained that, in this this filly's previous run, she raced greenly, jumped awkwardly, was slow, ducked out, bumped, rushed up in the race and tired in the concluding stages. However, today, after jumping well from a good draw, LUNA ECLIPSE enjoyed a significantly better trip in the running which contributed to its improved winning performance. The Board noted the explanation of Trainer M Roberts which was corroborated by the Stipendiary Stewards' report from the 19 September 2021.
f) LUNA ECLIPSE (*R A Venniker), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M L Roberts advised (SC).
