RECONNAISSANCE and COUNTRY ROCK were nervous in the stalls. MASTER DESIGN and DUET were slow into stride. HARD CORE, SPIRIT OF SONG and ADIOS GRINGO over-raced in the early and middle stages. COUNTRY ROCK was hanging in from the 400m. Trainer Kotzen appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding the improved performance of HOME RULER after her apparently disappointing last run on 27 September 2019. In this regard, she explained to the Board that, this filly had appreciated the drop in class today, was the best weighted runner in the race and had improved after her last run which she needed as, it was her first in Port Elizabeth and after a long rest. She also was off the opinion that this filly had enjoyed stepping up in distance today. It was Trainer Kotzen's view that the combination of these factors had enabled HOME RULER to produce an improved run today and return to her consistent Durban form. The Board noted the explanation of Trainer Kotzen which was corroborated by the previous form of HOME RULER. HOME RULER and HARD CORE were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
