THE STARTER HAD NO REPORTS. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 400m, THUMBS UP (R Danielson) which was hanging inwards, was momentarily awkwardly placed on the heels of RIO'S WINTER (G Lerena) which was switched out to continue its run. Thereafter THUMBS UP gave ground to the field. Trainer J van Vuuren was requested to report back to the Board on the condition of THUMBS UP on return to stable. b) Leaving the 150m and until the concluding stages, BIG BURN (W Kennedy) which was hanging in, despite the efforts of its rider to keep it on a straight course and SOUND OF WARNING (G van Niekerk) which shifted outwards away from the crop covering significant ground, came together and made contact on three occasions. A member of the Stipendiary Board called a race review into this incident which was followed by an Objection being lodged by Jockey Kennedy the rider of the second placed horse BIG BURN against the winner SOUND OF WARNING (G van Niekerk) on the grounds of intimidation and interference in the closing stages. The Objection Board, after giving regard to the evidence put forward as well as reviewing the patrol films from the various angles, was mindful that there were dual movements to this incident and were comfortably satisfied that SOUND OF WARNING had run on from behind BIG BURN prior to this incident and that despite SOUND OF WARNING covering significant ground, it would have won the race had this incident not occurred. Subsequently the Objection was overruled and Jockey Kennedy's deposit was refunded. c) Jockey G van Niekerk the rider of SOUND OF WARNING, appeared before the Board, was shown the patrol films of his riding over the final 150m of this race, and was advised that the Stewards determined his riding to be below the standard of a senior rider. The Stewards advised him that his horse had shifted significant ground outwards away from his right-hand crop and that he had failed to take the necessary measures to straighten his horse. He was told that the only reason the Stewards did not prefer a charge against him, was the fact that BIG BURN had itself shifted ground inwards when it was hanging in despite the efforts of its rider to keep it on a straight course. d) Jockey M van Rensburg (LOVE BOMB) and Jockey G Lerena (RIO'S WINTER) reported that they felt something amiss with their respective mounts in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these horses. e) Jockey C Maujean reported that LUCY ENGLISH made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. f) SOUND OF WARNING (G van Niekerk), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S G Tarry advised (RS). g) BIG BURN (W Kennedy), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P A Peter advised (SM). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) LOVE BOMB raced without blinkers (declared 26 November 2021 at 13H35). b) TANZANTE QUEEN Jockey S Khumalo weighed out at 53,4kg, 0,5kg over the carded weight. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) LOVE BOMB examined post race, nothing obvious detected. b) RIO'S WINTER lame right front. c) LUCY ENGLISH abnormal respiratory noise. d) LUCY IN THE SKY fatigued.
