THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CROME YELLOW (G van Niekerk) and RETRO EFFECT (G Cheyne) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, CROME YELLOW (G van Niekerk) cast his right hind shoe on the way to the start which had to be replaced by the farrier, causing a delay. b) In a slow run race MAGNIFICENT SEVEN (C Zackey) and CATCHAFALLINGSTAR (L Mxothwa) pulled hard in the early stages. c) At the 300m ANSE LAZIO (AUS) (S Mbhele) was momentarily inconvenienced when close to the heels of CROME YELLOW (G van Niekerk) which was hanging out and rolled out. Thereafter CROME YELLOW (G van Niekerk) continued to shift outwards until the finish. d) Approaching the 100m CATCHAFALLINGSTAR (L Mxothwa) had to steadied away from the heels of BLACK KNAP (A Marcus) which rolled in away from CRIMSON KING (R Fourie). e) Jockey R Fourie, the rider of CRIMSON KING, reported this gelding did not stride out freely in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. f) CROME YELLOW, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer WA Nel was advised.
