THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SINGFONICO (R Munger) stumbled leaving the stalls. b) MULETA (F Herholdt) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. c) PERMESSO AVANTI (K de Melo) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey W Kennedy, the rider of MUFASA, accidentally dropped his crop at the 150m. b) BRONCO BLITZ (Wes Marwing) was baulked for a clear run from the 300m to the finish. c) Apprentice K A Brewer reported that SLALOM QUEEN made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Jockey C Maujean reported that IMPRESSIVE DUCHESS took no interest in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare. e) When questioned regarding his ride on SINGFONICO, Jockey R Munger explained to the Board that it was his instructions and intentions to race SINGFONICO from its normal handy position, however after stumbling at the start, he was forced to sit further back than intended. He elected to track MUFASA (W Kennedy), who he believed was the horse to beat. He further advised the Board that this gelding has a very short run in, which is why he had sat as long as he did and when asked for an effort, this gelding failed to quicken and stayed on one-paced. Jockey R Munger's explanation was corroborated by the patrol film of the race. f) MARENGO (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer R R Magner advised (DR). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) VALIENTE was ridden by Jockey J Penny (declared 9 December 2021 at 08H50). b) WINTER TIGER: Jockey D Schwarz weighed out at 54,9kg, 0,5kg over the carded weight. c) ALEX THE GREAT: Jockey B Nyawo weighed out at 54,9kg, 0,5kg over the carded weight.
