THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DEFENDER OF RIGHTS (*P Mxoli) broke through the front gates, was restrained by the Rider, returned to the starting stalls, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, passed fit to race and reloaded. Trainer S T Pettigrew was advised to reschool this filly prior to her next engagement. b) DEFENDER OF RIGHTS (*P Mxoli) and DEVASTATOR (K Matsunyane) were slow losing one length. c) BELLA FIORENZA (M van Rensburg) was slow losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) DEFENDER OF RIGHTS (*P Mxoli) jumped awkwardly, was slow, failed to muster early speed and raced detached from the field. Thereafter, DEFENDER OF RIGHTS (*P Mxoli) finished the Race off strongly. b) LA BANQUIERE (W Kennedy) hung in throughout. c) Apprentice P Mxoli was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking DEFENDER OF RIGHTS more than twelve times in the entire race. Apprentice P Mxoli signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R 750.00 was imposed. d) FULL ROYALTY (R Munger), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
