THE STARTER REPORTED
A) JACK IN THE BOX and NARCOS were slow into stride.
B) LIONS TAIL was stubborn loading and slow into stride.
C) STAR EFFECT was withdrawn by the Course Veterinary Surgeon at the start.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED
A) PSYCHEDELIC ERIC (R Fourie) was hanging in from 400m.
B) Apprentice K A Brewer reported that he felt something amiss with JACK IN THE BOX in the running. The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
C) In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning JACK IN THE BOX (*K A Brewer), and in terms of Rule 93.1, this gelding is suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority. Trainer J V A Strydom was advised.
D) In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning STAR EFFECT (S Naidoo), and in terms of Rule 93.1, this gelding is suspended from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority for an indefinite period. In terms of Rule 49.7, a veterinary certificate for STAR EFFECT must be submitted to the Veterinary Department of the National Horseracing Authority, before it can be entered for a race. STAR EFFECT must also gallop for the NHRA veterinary department after which, if found fit to race, will be sent for specimen collection for analysis. Trainer G D Smith was advised.
E) The winner NARCOS was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis, Trainer M L Turner advised (LM).
