THE STARTER REPORTED: a) During the loading process, SKY RUNNER (J Gates) kicked the back gates resulting in CHASING MAVERICKS (K Matsunyane) becoming restless and breaking through the front gate. CHASING MAVERICKS was restrained by its rider, returned to the start, checked by the Course Veterinary Surgeon, passed fit to race and reloaded. Stable Employee J Crawford was advised to re-school CHASING MAVERICKS prior to its next engagement (LAS). b) GOLD AMBITION (C Habib), REBELS GATE (*J R Syster) and THE GREAT ROMANTIC (M van Rensburg) were stubborn loading. c) WAVE WARRIOR (M Yeni) and FULL GO (C Maujean) were slow losing one length. d) VERCIN DANCE (*K A Brewer) was slow losing two lengths. e) GREAT MELODY (F Herholdt) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 500m, SKY RUNNER (J Gates) had to steady momentarily to avoid running onto the heels of GREAT MELODY (F Herholdt) which hung out from the 600m. b) WONDERING STAR (S Khumalo) hung out and shifted out away from the crop from the 400m. c) VERCIN DANCE (*K A Brewer) commenced to give ground to the field from the 400m. d) EARL OF CARDIGAN (J Penny) hung out from the 200m. e) Jockey C Zackey reported that MAGNUM P I made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) Jockey F Herholdt reported that GREAT MELODY changed stride continually in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. g) Jockey J Gates reported that SKY RUNNER did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. h) WONDERING STAR (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
