THE STARTER REPORTED: a) VOLLUTO (R Munger) was stubborn loading. Trainer A B Fortune was advised to re-school this gelding prior to its next engagement (PHvdW) b) DRONFIELD (C Zackey) was slow into stride. c) BLACKBURN JET (B Nyawo) was slow losing one length. d) FOREVER FREE (*K A Brewer) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey S Khumalo reported that CHASE YOUR DREAMS choked up in running and did not persevere with his riding from the 200m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. When afforded the opportunity to place on record any factors which may have accounted for the poor performance of CHASE YOUR DREAMS, Jockey Khumalo explained that this gelding had travelled well in the early stages, however, approaching the 400m, he had come under pressure and despite his urgings, continued to lose touch with the field. He further added that this gelding had made a severe respiratory noise which prevented him from persevering with his mount in the concluding stages. Trainer A Azzie was requested to report back to the Board on the condition of this gelding on return to stables. b) When questioned regarding the improved performance of FOREVER FREE, Trainer C J Lensley explained to the Board that in this gelding's debut over 1200m, he had shown a lot of pace and had only faded out over the final 200m. In view of this, they dropped him back to 1000m, and in his opinion this had accounted for the improvement. He has undertaken where possible to run FOREVER FREE over similar distances in future. c) VOLLUTO (R Munger), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A B Fortune advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) NAZDAROVYA was ridden by Jockey M Khan (declared 28 December 2021 at 07H32). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) BEVOETERD raced fitted with a compression mask (declared 22 December 2021 at 12H32). b) SONNENSTRAHL raced with a tongue tie on (declared 27 December 2021 at 08H02). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) CHASE YOUR DREAMS examined post race, nothing obvious detected. SCRATCHED: a) BRAVE SIOUX colic (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies).
