THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SUGAR BEACH (R Munger) was unruly and refused to load. The Starting Stall Certificate for this gelding has been withdrawn. b) LONDON ROADS (B Nyawo) and PUTTING GREEN (*K A Brewer) were slow losing one length. c) CAPTAIN OF GRIT (S Khumalo) reared in the stalls. Trainer C Dawson was advised to re-school this gelding prior to its next engagement (BN). THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) ASTROCYTE (M Khan) proved reluctant to proceed to the start and was led by a Handler. Trainer P A Peter was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future, it may be suspended (NHA). b) In view of the Starter's report with regard to SUGAR BEACH, this gelding has been suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 30 days and until such time as it proves tractable loading and jumping on terms with a companion. Suspension dates: 31 December 2021 to 29 January 2022. SUGAR BEACH may not be presented for repassing during this period. Trainer A B Fortune advised (BN). c) Shortly after the start, COPERNICUS (S Brown), was buffeted between FILL YOUR BOOTS (J Gates) which jumped outwards and BROADWAY (D Schwarz) which jumped inwards leaving the stalls. d) Shortly after the start, LONDON ROADS (B Nyawo) when carried in by DUKE OF RAIN (C Zackey), became unbalanced after making contact with PUTTING GREEN (*K A Brewer) which rolled in marginally. e) At approximately the 1200m, THE NKOSANA (D De Gouveia) steadied momentarily to avoid running onto the heels of COPERNICUS (S Brown). f) CAPTAIN OF GRIT (S Khumalo) hung out from the 300m. g) FILL YOUR BOOTS (J Gates) hung out from the 300m and thereafter Jockey Gates accidentally dropped his crop at the 200m. h) Jockey M Khan reported that he felt something amiss with ASTROCYTE in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. i) CAPTAIN OF GRIT (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Dawson advised (AH). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) DJ JUNIOR is a gelding, incorrectly carded (gelded 12 August 2020). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) ASTROCYTE speedy cut right hind and not striding out right hind. b) COPERNICUS blowing. c) THE NKOSANA mild post race distress. SCRATCHED: a) BYE BYE BIRDIE short in front (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies). b) SUGAR BEACH refused to load (NHA/13H07) Betting 20/1. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
