THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ORGETORIX (S Khumalo) and THORNTON CREEK (D Schwarz) were slow into stride. b) BLACK BURNER (J Gates) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. c) ASPIRINGTOREIGN (C Habib) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, BACK TO BASICS (N Klink) was squeezed between MACTAVISH (C Maujean) who was carried in by BLACK BURNER (J Gates) which jumped inwards and THORNTON CREEK (D Schwarz) who was carried out by ORGETORIX (S Khumalo) which jumped outwards leaving the stalls. b) BACK TO BASICS (N Klink) hung out from the 200m. c) At approximately the 150m, ABAYYAAN (K Matsunyane) was bumped inwards by MACTAVISH (C Maujean) which commenced to hang in from the 400m. d) Jockey R Munger reported that he felt something amiss with COMING IN HOT in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. e) In view of the performance of ABAYYAAN (K Matsunyane), (betting 3/1, distance 6,75 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) BACK TO BASICS (N Klink), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B Webber advised (AH). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) EQUERRY raced with a tongue tie on (declared 1 January 2022 at 07H44). b) MACTAVISH raced fitted with a compression mask (declared 30 December 2021 at 08H44). c) THORNTON CREEK new ownership:- Messrs W G De Koker & P J Louwrens (colours:- White, black sleeves, white armbands, striped cap) Sold with engagements. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) COMING IN HOT not striding out behind. b) ABAYYAAN not striding out right hind. c) CAPTAIN PERSIA mild abnormal respiratory noise and not striding out right hind. d) BACK TO BASICS cut into left hind. e) BLACK BURNER brush wound left hind. f) ASPIRINGTOREIGN blood in right nostril.
