THE STARTER REPORTED: a) KAPTEIN (G Cheyne) was restless in the stalls, taken out, checked by the course veterinary surgeon, passed fit to race and reloaded, causing a delay. b) KAPTEIN (G Cheyne) was squeezed out shortly after leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) LOOK FOR HOUNDS (A Marcus) commenced to hang outward leaving the 400m and was immediately straightened. b) Jockey A Marcus reported LOOK FOR HOUNDS made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) In view of the performance of T'CHALLA (S Khumalo) (Betting 11/2 : Distance 3.75) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding d) In view of the performance of ALL ABOUT AL (C Zackey) (Betting 6/1 : Distance 3.65) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt. e) In view of the performance of ROYAL WATCH (R Fourie) (Betting 6/1: Distance 5.20) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt. f) The Stewards reviewed the run of BUSH TRACKER on 18/12/2021 and established that the gelding was bumped at the start and was subsequently crowded for galloping room and had to ease off the heels of other runners in the middle stages. Thereafter, the gelding failed to produce a strong finish. Trainer GS Kotzen was questioned if there were any further reasons for the gelding's improved performance today Trainer Kotzen told the Stewards that, while he had been disappointed with BUSH TRACKER's performance in the Guineas on 18/12/2021, today's race was a distinct drop in class which explained the improvement, in his opinion. The Stewards noted his explanation and were satisfied that the gelding had raced and was ridden on merit in its previous race. The future performances of BUSH TRACKER will be monitored. g) BUSH TRACKER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GS Kotzen was advised. (TJ). Nothing obvious detected d) ALL ABOUT AL - examined post-race. Not striding out right hind e) LION'S HEAD - coughing post-race f) KAPTEIN - mouth injury THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
