THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SKY CAFE (D Dillon) and RASPEBERRY BERET (S Veale) were stubborn to load. Trainers W Whitehead and C Hewitson will be advised to re-school these fillies. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : b) At the 250m, SKY CAFE (D Dillon) and GUEST GETORIXX (K de Melo) came together and bumped. Thereafter, Jockey K de Melo reported that GUEST GETORIXX did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) In reviewing the form of INDIGO FIELDS (S Moodley) and on its face value, the poor performance in its last run, the Board referred to the Stipendiary Stewards' report from 26 December 2021. In this regard, it was established that in this filly's last run, it had over-raced in the early and middle stages under a 4kg claiming apprentice. However, for today's run, when ridden by a Jockey and without blinkers, this filly settled better despite showing good pace in the early and middle stages and finished its race off strongly. Consequently, the Board was satisfied that the reason for INDIGO FIELDS' poor performance in its last run was evident from the Stipendiary Stewards' report and it elected not to question Trainer Gareth van Zyl. d) INDIGO FIELDS (S Moodley), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer L Karriem acting on behalf of Trainer Gareth van Zyl advised (HM). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) BLACK PEPPERCORN was ridden by Jockey G Wright (advised 09.01.22/8h22). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) GUEST GETORIXX : Not striding out right hind. b) RASPBERRY BERET : Brush wound right hind. c) INDIGO FIELDS : Returned post-race having cast the left front shoe. THE MEDICAL OFFICER REPORTED : a) Jockey D Dillon was examined after the running of this race:- dehydration. Unfit to continue riding. Dr Pillay. Rule 25.12 applies.
