THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) Fair start.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) CASIMIRO (K Sakayi) shifted out away from the crop between the 300m and the 250m.
b) At the 150m, GENIE (*M Zuma) was tightened for galloping room when awkwardly placed between CAPTAIN SEAGER (W Kennedy) which rolled in and CUPID'S SONG (S Veale) which rolled out marginally. Thereafter, leaving the 100m, GENIE (*M Zuma) which shifted in away from the crop marginally, brushed CUPID'S SONG (S Veale) in.
A race review was called into this incident, which was followed by an objection being lodged by Trainer Gareth van Zyl on behalf of the second placed horse (GENIE) against the winner (CUPID'S SONG) on the grounds of interference in the concluding stages. After considering the evidence in this matter, the Board overruled the objection. In arriving at this decision, the Board considered that, CAPTAIN SEAGER's (W Kennedy) movement was a contributing factor to the tightening of GENIE (*M Zuma), GENIE (*M Zuma) had itself shifted towards CUPID'S SONG (S Veale) and that from approximately the 70m both CUPID'S SONG (S Veale) and GENIE (*M Zuma) are unimpeded and had every opportunity to race each other to the finish. Consequently, the Board could not be satisfied that but for the above incident, GENIE (*M Zuma) would have finished ahead of CUPID'S SONG (S Veale), therefore it overruled the objection and allowed the Judge's result to stand. Trainer Gareth van Zyl's deposit was refunded.
c) In view of the performance of GAUDIS MASTERPIECE (*R Venniker) (4.60 lengths, 14/10 in the betting), Assistant Trainer M Trott acting on behalf of Trainer S J Snaith will be requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of this colt on return to stables.
d) CUPID'S SONG (S Veale), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A J Rivalland advised (HM).
