THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) CASTLETOWN (K Matsunyane) was restless in the stalls and jumped outwards leaving the stalls.
b) SHINING ARMOUR (M Khan) was stubborn loading. Trainer P A Peter was advised to reschool this filly prior to her next engagement.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) SHINING ARMOUR kicked the stall gates at the start, was examined by the Course Veterinary Surgeon and declared fit to race.
SHINING ARMOUR (M Khan) over-raced in the early and middle stages.
Jockey Khan was questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on SHINING ARMOUR. He explained to the Board that his instructions were to adopt front running tactics making the most of SHINING ARMOUR's large action. Through the 600m, Jockey Khan reported that this filly changed stride on a number of occasions and in feeling something amiss with her at this point, did not persevere with his riding from the 400m. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine SHINING ARMOUR.
Trainer P A Peter was requested to report back to the Board on the condition of this filly on return to stables.
b) Jockey S Khumalo reported that he felt something amiss with MOYA WA LALIGA in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
c) Jockey M Yeni reported that LITTLE PRINCE did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
Jockey Yeni accidentally dropped his crop at the 350m.
d) ARAGOSTA (R Fourie) shifted in away from the crop in the concluding stages.
e) ARAGOSTA (R Fourie), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M F de Kock advised (DR).
JOCKEY CHANGES:
None.
RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER:
a) CASTLETOWN raced with a tongue tie on and without blinkers (declared 21 January 2022 at 08H20).
b) NOBLE STRIKER raced fitted with a compression mask (declared 18 January 2022 at 10H04).
THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED:
a) SHINING ARMOUR examined post race, nothing obvious detected.
b) MOYA WA LALIGA examined post race, nothing obvious detected.
c) PLATINUM SKY blowing.
d) LITTLE PRINCE lame right hind. Veterinary Certificate required prior to entry. Trainer P A Peter advised (Rule 49.7 applies).
e) CASTLETOWN overreach left front and cut into right front.
THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
