THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) SOUTH BOY (ARG) (M Khan) was stubborn loading. The starting stall certificate for this gelding has been withdrawn. Trainer J J van Vuuren was advised (GT).
b) AUGUST RAIN (S Khumalo), VEGAS HI RISE (W Kennedy) and CORVETTE CAPTAIN (K de Melo) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) VEGAS HI RISE (W Kennedy) proved reluctant to canter to the start and had to be led by a Handler. Trainer P A Peter was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future, it may be suspended.
b) In view of the Starter's report with regard to SOUTH BOY (ARG), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 7 days and until such time as he proves tractable loading with a companion.
Suspension dates: 26 January 2022 to 1 February 2022. SOUTH BOY (ARG) may not be presented for re-passing during this period. Trainer J J van Vuuren was advised.
c) Jockey D De Gouveia reported that ROCK OF AFRICA did not stride out freely in running.
The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
d) Jockey M Khan reported that SOUTH BOY (ARG) did not stride out freely in running.
The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
e) CORVETTE CAPTAIN (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J J van Vuuren advised (LN).
Trainer J J van Vuuren was asked if he could offer any factors which may have accounted for this gelding's improved performance. Trainer J J van Vuuren explained to the Board that after numerous unsuccessful attempts at racing this gelding over further, he is of the opinion that CORVETTE CAPTAIN is best suited to the distance of 1200m and where possible, will restrict this gelding to races over that distance.
