RACEHORSE OWNERS ASSOCIATION PROGRESS HANDICAP (For Maidens, 1,2&3 time winners)

THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LEGITIMISE (L Tarentaal) kicked the back gate. b) DIFFERENT FACE (GB) (G van Niekerk) jumped awkwardly inwards and made contact with the front gate of the starting stalls, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. c) CAPTAIN'S KNOT (K de Melo) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, DEBONAIR (C Zackey) cast his left front shoe on the way to the start which had to be replaced, causing a delay. b) After a slow start DIFFERENT FACE (GB) (G van Niekerk) over raced and raced with its head up for a short distance in the early stages. c) Approaching the 100m FORT RED (R Khathi) was momentarily inconvenienced and had to be directed to the outside of LEGITIMISE (L Tarentaal) to continue its run when LEGITIMISE (L Tarentaal) shifted in sharply. A member of the Stipendiary Board and Jockey R Khathi called for a race review regarding this incident. All parties, after reviewing the race recording and taking into account the distance between LEGITIMISE (L Tarentaal) placed 1st, and FORT RED (R Khathi) placed 3rd, being 0.25 lengths, were of the opinion that the result of the race had not been affected and no further action was taken. Jockey L Tarentaal appeared before the Board, was shown the race recording and advised to react sooner when his mounts shift ground in similar circumstances. d) LEGITIMISE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
