THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At the 200m, Jockey D Dillon's (MANHATTEN CAFE) crop became briefly entangled with his reins. Thereafter, this gelding shifted out away from the crop in the concluding stages. b) Jockey S Khumalo signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse ONE SHOT WONDER more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey S Khumalo struck the horse ONE SHOT WONDER, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (4) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R2500 was imposed. Jockey S Khumalo was further advised that the frequency of his appearances in the Boardroom with regard to contraventions of this Rule are unacceptable and that should he appear before the Board regarding a similar contravention in the near future, more severe sanctions may follow. c) MANHATTEN CAFE (D Dillon), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P B Muscutt advised (HM). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) VARRY GREEN raced equipped with blinkers (advised 31.01.22/7h40). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) MANHATTEN CAFE is a gelding. (Notification to be investigated) THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) RUNAWAY SONG : Blowing. b) METALLIC GOLD : Abnormal respiratory noise. c) VARRY GREEN : Cut into right front. SCRATCHINGS : a) OH MY WORD ITS ROY : Heat left front joint (Trainer - 02.02.22/8h48). Rule 53.5 applies.
