THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DEPUTY MARSHALL (K Sakayi) and TWICE THE FLIGHT (S Moodley) lost 1 length, respectively. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) LUCRETIUS (S Veale) over-raced in the early and middle stages. b) Trainer P Lafferty will be questioned regarding the poor performance of BILLY BAZOOKA on the 09.01.22. c) Jockey S Veale appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding his decision to allow BILLY BAZOOKA (*D Geerthsen) to obtain the lead and him seek cover after jumping well and attaining a positional advantage in relation to BILLY BAZOOKA (*D Geerthsen). In this regard, Jockey S Veale explained that his instructions for this race were to obtain cover if possible. Consequently, he conceded his positional advantage and rode to these instructions following which LUCRETIUS (S Veale) commenced to over-race. When questioned regarding his decision to obtain cover, he further stated that whilst this horse tends to over-race, once obtaining cover in work, LUCRETIUS does settle. Therefore, he was of the view that, he could ride to instructions and held the opinion that LUCRETIUS would settle. Trainer C Hewitson appeared before the Board and confirmed the statement of Jockey S Veale in so far as it related to him. He further added that he would be more likely to instruct riders to lead on LUCRETIUS in future after considering the constitution of the field. The Board noted the explanation of both Jockey S Veale and Trainer C Hewitson however, reminded each of their obligations regarding changes of tactics on their runners. d) BILLY BAZOOKA (*D B Geerthsen), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P V Lafferty advised (NS). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) MAJESTIC POWER was ridden by Jockey S Khumalo (advised 02.02.22/9h08). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) KING'S COVE : Abnormal respiratory noise and choked up. b) MAJESTIC POWER : Mild post-race distress. c) LORD OF THE MANOR : Brush wound right front.
