THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey G Lerena, the rider of MIND READER appeared before the Board, was shown the patrol films of the race, and reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out to the finish. b) When questioned regarding his riding of MIND READER, Jockey Lerena told the Stewards that his instructions were to obtain cover behind other runners from its inside draw and to allow her to finish the race off strongly. He added that it was his opinion that this mare would have been better served if he had allowed her to race freely within herself. The Board noted his explanation. c) Jockey C Zackey reported that MAY QUEEN made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare. d) REMEMBER WHEN (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J J van Vuuren advised (GF). e) BELLA CHICA (*R A Venniker), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A B Fortune advised (MdP). JOCKEY CHANGES: None.
