THE STARTER REPORTED: a) NATIONAL FLAG (A Mgudlwa) was restless in the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Leaving the 200m, PARK AND FLY (*K Brewer) was carried out marginally by LUCK OF THE IRIS (K de Melo). Thereafter, PARK AND FLY (*K Brewer) shifted out away from the crop and was immediately straightened resulting in COLOUR MASTER (S Brown) being steadied momentarily when awkwardly placed on the heels of PARK AND FLY (*K Brewer). A race review was called by a Stipendiary Steward with regard to this incident, which was followed by an objection lodged by Jockey S Brown on behalf of COLOUR MASTER (placed fourth) against PARK AND FLY (*K Brewer) (placed third) on the grounds of interference in the concluding stages. After considering the evidence presented by both parties, as well as the finishing distance of 0.20 lengths between these two horses and the extent of the interference, the Board was of the opinion that COLOUR MASTER (S Brown) would not have beaten PARK AND FLY (*K Brewer). The Board therefore over-ruled the Objection, allowed the Judge's result to stand and refunded the deposit. b) Apprentice S Hlengwa (TOP TEN) completed a satisfactory qualifying ride. c) Jockey N Patel appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding the tactics adopted when riding DENVER in this Race. He explained to the Board that DENVER failed to negotiate the first turn by hanging out badly, proving difficult to assist. He further explained that he encouraged this gelding forward to try and assist it in negotiating the remaining bends on the racecourse. However, his numerous attempts proved unsuccessful and DENVER continued to hang out badly for the remainder of the race. The Board noted Jockey N Patel's explanation, however, advised Trainer A Wright to correct this gelding's racing manners and that should DENVER behave similarly in future, it may be suspended. d) In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning DENVER, and in terms of Rule 93.1, this gelding is suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority. Trainer A Wright was advised. (Suspension Dates : 14.02.22 to the 14.04.22, bdi) e) Trainer P Lafferty was questioned regarding the improved performance of NATIONAL FLAG (A Mgudlwa). He explained to the Board that NATIONAL FLAG was recently gelded and returned to its preferred racing distance. This, in his opinion had accounted for today's improved performance. f) NATIONAL FLAG (A Mgudlwa), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P V Lafferty advised (NS). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) Nil. RACECARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) DENVER: Unilateral epistaxis. Confirmed 60 days suspension. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
