THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PHOENIX (C Zackey) was slow losing one length. b) FLAME FLOWER (W Kennedy) stumbled leaving the stalls. c) FIRE FLOWER (K Matsunyane) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. d) POMANDER (C Habib) was squeezed out shortly after the start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, POMANDER (C Habib) was squeezed between FIRE FLOWER (K Matsunyane) which jumped inwards and FLAME FLOWER (W Kennedy) which jumped outwards and stumbled badly on two occasions. b) Jockey C Zackey was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking PHOENIX more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey Zackey signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R1000 was imposed. When assessing the penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times the crop was used (15), the distance over which and manner in which the crop was used, as well as his recent record with regard to this Rule and Guideline. (1). c) ETERNAL LIFE (*K A Brewer), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C J Lensley advised (LN). d) PHOENIX (C Zackey), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Jockey C Zackey advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) POMANDER not striding out left front. b) FLAME FLOWER not striding out right front. c) WOMAN OF SUBSTANCE brush wound left hind. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
