THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) Fair start.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) At approximately the 200m, SCENT OF A WOMAN (D Dillon) had to check severely when awkwardly placed on the heels of LOVING THE VICTORY (R Khathi) which shifted in away from the crop.
Jockey R Khathi signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of LOVING THE VICTORY, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to the horse SCENT OF A WOMAN (D Dillon) at approximately the 150m. Accordingly, a suspension from riding in races for a period of 7 days was imposed. (Suspension dates to be advised)
b) Jockey M Yeni reported that he felt something amiss with STAR CHOICE in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
c) In view of the performances of SCENT OF A WOMAN (D Dillon) (16.40 lengths, 14/1 in the betting) and BRUNILDA (S Moodley) (5.15 lengths, 9/2 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
d) Jockey S Veale signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse MAIDENS PRAYER more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey S Veale struck the horse MAIDENS PRAYER, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (4) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R2500 was imposed. Jockey S Veale was further advised that the frequency of his appearances in the Boardroom with regard to contraventions of this Rule are unacceptable and that should he appear before the Board regarding a similar incident in the near future, more severe sanctions may follow.
e) PELARGONIUM (A Arries), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Y Govender advised (NS).
