THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CAPTAIN FREEDOM (*K A Brewer) was unruly and reared badly in the stalls. This gelding was removed from the stalls, examined by the Course Veterinary Surgeon and subsequently scratched. The starting stall certificate for this gelding has been withdrawn. Assistant Trainer C Naude, acting on behalf of Trainer C Binda, advised (GT). b) BLACK BURNER (J P v'd Merwe) was stubborn loading. c) COVERT OPERATOR (D Schwarz) and FLOREANA ISLAND (M Yeni) were slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey W Kennedy reported that he felt something amiss with MARADIVA in running and he did not persevere with his riding in the concluding stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. b) In view of the Starter's report with regard to CAPTAIN FREEDOM, this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 7 days and until such time as he proves tractable loading with a companion. Suspension dates: 11 March 2022 to 17 March 2022. CAPTAIN FREEDOM may not be presented for re-passing during this period. Assistant Trainer C Naude, acting on behalf of Trainer C Binda, advised. c) Jockey D David was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking DOUBLE MAGIC more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey D David signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R1,000.00 was imposed. When assessing this penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times the crop was used (15) and Jockey D David's recent record with regards to this Rule and Guideline (1). d) Jockey J P van der Merwe was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline C on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking BLACK BURNER more than three times on consecutive strides. Jockey J P van der Merwe signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R1,500.00 was imposed. When assessing this penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of consecutive strikes (6). e) BLACK BURNER (J P v'd Merwe), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer F Bronkhorst advised (RS). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) EARL OF CARDIGAN was ridden by Jockey M van Rensburg (declared 9 March 2022 at 15H23). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) GONE IN TIME raced equipped with alumites in front and unshod behind (declared 2 March 2022 at 08H45). b) CAPTAIN FREEDOM raced unshod (declared 3 March 2022 at 13H02). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) MARADIVA blowing profusely post race. b) DOUBLE MAGIC abnormal respiratory noise. SCRATCHED: a) CAPTAIN FREEDOM injured in the stalls (NHA / 13H36) Betting 50/1.
