THE STARTER REPORTED
A) WANGAN MIDNIGHT and JAQUAR CAT were stubborn loading.
B) SEATTLE BEAT and SWANKING were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED
A) Jockey M V'Rensburg (THE SANDS) did not persevere with his riding from the top of the straight. The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Trainer J V A Strydom will be requested to report back on the condition of this colt upon return to the stables.
B) Jockey R Fourie reported that BALTIC BEAT did not stride out freely in the running and did not persevere with his riding from the 200m. The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
C) In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning BALTIC BEAT (R Fourie), and in terms of Rule 93.1, this colt is suspended from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority for an indefinite period. In terms of Rule 49.7, a veterinary certificate for BALTIC BEAT must be submitted to the Veterinary Department of the National Horseracing Authority, before it can be entered for a race. Trainer G D Smith was advised.
C) The winner SEATTLE BEAT was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis, Assistant Trainer L Gila acting on behalf of Trainer K Naidoo advised (LM).
When questioned regarding the improved performance of SEATTLE BEAT, compared to its previous race on 11 February 2022. Assistant Trainer L Gila told the Stewards that this gelding performs better when it is able to take up a trailing position with cover. In its previous race, it raced exposed without cover which led to it weakening in this race. His explanation was noted and the previous race of 11 February 2022 will be reviewed.
