THE STARTER REPORTED: a) FERRANDO (C Zackey) was fractious in the stalls, reared and got his left front leg caught through an opening in the front gate. The Handlers had difficulty extracting FERRANDO's leg from the opening in the stalls, but once they did, the gelding was taken out of the stalls, examined by the veterinary surgeon and withdrawn. This caused a delay. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 200m BONANZA (D Ashby), which was racing tight on the inside of SILVER SALMON (C Orffer) which had initially been carried in by TRIVIAL MATTER (R Fourie) shifted out slightly away from the inside running rail and brushed the hindquarters of BONANZA (D Ashby). As a consequence, SILVER SALMON (C Orffer) was turned inwards resulting in both horses becoming severely unbalanced and BONANZA (D Ashby) having to check, losing position. After reviewing the race recording from all available angles, the Stewards were satisfied that this was a racing incident and that no rider could be held accountable. b) FIGHTER (O Noach) returned suffering from a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended, for a period of 60 days, from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr J Batt) c) In view of the report from the starter regarding FERRANDO (C Zackey), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 17/03/2022 to 23/03/2022 inclusive). FERRANDO may not be presented for re-passing during this period. d) TRIVIAL MATTER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AE Sands was advised.
