THE STARTER REPORTED: a) VAR PARK (R Munger) reared in the stalls. b) KARANGETANG (K de Melo) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. c) LORD OF LIGHT (D Schwarz) was slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, MAGIC TATTOO (C Habib) was bumped out by KARANGETANG (K de Melo), which jumped outwards leaving the stalls. b) Jockey W Kennedy was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking RIVER QUERARESS more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey W Kennedy signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R 1,000.00 was imposed. When assessing this penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times the crop was used (13), the status of the race and Jockey W Kennedy's recent record with regards to this Rule and Guideline (1). c) KARANGETANG (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J J van Vuuren advised (RS). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) LORD OF LIGHT raced equipped with ear muffs (declared 25 March 2022 at 07H20). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) KALAHARI BLUE head injury in the stalls caused a nosebleed. Trachea clear on scope. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
