THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DOG DETACHMENT (D Ashby) was restless in the stalls. b) TWICE THE MASTER (J Jacobs) jumped slow and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) HIGH DUDGEON (G van Niekerk) raced wide on the bend and was ridden forward from the 800m. b) Between the 400m and the 150m CLAP OF THUNDER (G Cheyne), which was hanging out and proved difficult to ride, shifted out and brushed DOUGLAS (L Mxothwa) on four occasions. c) Jockey D Ashby reported DOG DETACHMENT raced with his tongue over the bit and choked up in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) HIGH DUDGEON, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
