COMET PATH, CAPTAIN'S HEIR, TIME CATCHER and LIQUID SUNSHINE were slow into stride. KEEPER OF THE KEYS was nervous in the stalls. Jockey Storey signed an admission of guilt for a contravention, read with Guideline M on the use of the crop,in that he struck the horse USHANKA more than 12 times in the entire race. A penalty of a fine was imposed. In considering an appropriate penalty, the Board took into consideration Jockey Storey's record with regards to the transgression of this Rule, read with Guideline M, on the use of the crop. In view of the performance of SCOTTISH ALLY, the Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. After the running of this race, the Jockey's representatives approached the Stipendiary Board as they had concerns regarding the condition of the track, they submitted that the track was slightly firmer than the penetrometer reading suggested and recommended that it be changed to Good to Firm. The Stipendiary Board in conjunction with the track Manager and Phumelela representative subsequently altered the track reading accordingly. BEYOND TEMTATION was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. COMET PATH raced in colours of Mr G D Smith: Dark green, silver stars. BILLI ANN raced in colours of Money Talks Syndicate (Nom: Mr J V A Strydom), Mrs M O Strydom & Mr J V A Strydom: White, red braces & sleeves, quartered cap. Vet: SCOTTISH ALLY - abnormal respiratory noise. COMET PATH - speedy cut left front. USHANKA - blood in mouth.
