THE STARTER REPORTED
A) A THOUSAND TUNES was nervous in the stalls.
B) LA DUCHESSE jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls, was slow away and lost 4 lengths. Trainer J V A Strydom was advised to re-school this mare prior to its next engagement.
C) UNCOMPLICATED was slow into stride.
D) NINJINSKY'S SON was stubborn loading and slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED
A) Between the 100m and the finish, CANE LIME 'N SODA (W Kennedy) raced tight between DUKE OF ORANGE (J P v'd Merwe) and COFFE BREAK (G Cheyne) which rolled out marginally. During this incident, CANE LIME 'N SODA and DUKE OF ORANGE brushed. A race review was called by Jockey W Kennedy, followed by an objection being lodged by him as the rider of the 2nd placed (CANE LIME 'N SODA) against the winner (COFFEE BREAK) on the grounds of interference in the concluding stages. After reviewing the patrol films and hearing all the evidence presented, the Stewards could not be satisfied that but for this incident, CANE LIME 'N SODA would have finish in front of COFFEE BREAK and therefore overruled the objection. Jockey W Kennedy's deposit was refunded.
B) The winner COFFEE BREAK was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis, Assistant Trainer K Mitchley acting on behalf of Trainer Z Oosthuizen advised (LM).
C) The second placed horse CANE LIME N' SODA was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis, Assistant Trainer D G Smith acting on behalf of Trainer G D Smith advised (LM).
