THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CAPTAIN'S FLOWER (W Kennedy) was nervous in the stalls and slow into stride. b) MAGENTA (E Webber), RHYTHM OF THE RAIN (G Cheyne) and ANGEL DEB'S (L Mxothwa) were slow into stride. c) KLASERIE (*K Strydom) jumped outwards. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start CAPTAIN'S FLOWER (W Kennedy) and ANGEL DEB'S (L Mxothwa) were bumped by KLASERIE (*K Strydom), which jumped outwards. b) Approaching the 200m, RIO SUPREMO (F Herholdt), which was hanging in, had to steady momentarily to avoid running on to the heels of RHYTHM OF THE RAIN (G Cheyne), which was hanging out. Thereafter, RHYTHM OF THE RAIN (G Cheyne), which continued to hang out, shifted out and made contact with ANGEL DEB'S (L Mxothwa), resulting in RHYTHM OF THE RAIN (G Cheyne) becoming unbalanced. RHYTHM OF THE RAIN (G Cheyne) and ANGEL DEB'S (L Mxothwa) came together and brushed in the closing stages. c) Jockey G Cheyne reported that RHYTHM OF THE RAIN coughed profusely. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Jockey JP van der Merwe reported that PERONZADA changed stride in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) ANGEL DEB'S, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer DA McKenzie was advised.
