THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) BLINDLOVE (*KA Brewer) and CATCH THE CAT (JP van der Merwe) were nervous in the stalls.
b) WHAT A BLIZZARD (*K Strydom) was nervous in the stalls and stood awkwardly.
c) VIC FALLS (J Mphanya) stood awkwardly in the stalls.
d) ALLOWAY GROVE (T Gould) kicked the back stall gates, was taken out, examined by the course veterinary surgeon, passed suitable to race and reloaded, causing a delay.
e) HERRIN (G Cheyne) was nervous in the stalls and jumped slow, losing one length.
f) HILARITY (GB) (C Zackey) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) Jockey JP van der Merwe (CATCH THE CAT) dropped his crop at the 200m.
b) Apprentice Y Ramzan was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking MISS VENEZUELA more than 12 times in the entire race. Apprentice Y Ramzan signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2500,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Apprentice Y Ramzan used his crop, the number of strikes (15) over the permissible level and MISS VENEZUELA's finishing position.
c) Jockey J Mphanya, the rider of VIC FALLS, was attended to by the paramedics in the pull-up area and was unable to weigh in. The Stipendiary Board, acting in terms of Rule 66.2, deemed his weight correct. Jockey Mphanya was stood down after the running of this race (respiratory distress). Rule 25.12 applies. He was replaced on the remainder of his mounts.
d) MISS VENEZUELA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer WGC Miller was advised. (LM)
