THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DISTINCTION (C Zackey) jumped awkwardly outwards. b) MISS MARGUERITE (R Fourie) jumped inwards. c) CIAO BELLA (G van Niekerk) dwelt leaving the stalls, losing two lengths and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey G van Niekerk appeared before the Board and was interviewed concerning the Starter's report with regard to CIAO BELLA. Jockey G van Niekerk told the Stewards that the filly is still very green and had reacted when the Handler, who had been allocated to her according to her stalls grading, lifted his hand to release her shortly before the start was effected. As a consequence, CIAO BELLA was slow to begin. The race recording of the start confirmed his statement. b) Approaching the 50m BONIKA (G Cheyne) had to be steadied and shifted inwards away from DISTINCTION (C Zackey), which raced green, shifted in away from the crop and was immediately straightened. A race review was called by a member of the Stipendiary Board with regard to this incident. After reviewing all the available angles, the Stipendiary Steward was satisfied that the result had not been affected and took no further action. c) Jockey R Fourie was unable to ride MISS MARGUERITE to the finish when racing tight on the inside of DISTINCTION (C Zackey), which continued to roll in marginally in the concluding stages. d) WHO DO YOU LOVE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised. (NS) e) DISTINCTION, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
