THE STARTER REPORTED: a) JP TWO THOUSAND (G Lerena) jumped inwards and SAGE KING (D De Gouveia) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. b) RIGHT CHOICE (*K A Brewer) was slow into stride. c) ANYTIME CHAMP (C Habib) and BEY SUYAY (F Herholdt) were slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, RIGHT CHOICE (*K A Brewer) was bumped in by DUKE OF SUSSEX (C Zackey) who was brushed in by JP TWO THOUSAND (G Lerena) which jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) Shortly after the start, ANYTIME CHAMP (C Habib) was steadied and switched in to avoid the heels of BEY SUYAY (F Herholdt) which was carried out by SAGE KING (D De Gouveia) which jumped outwards leaving the stalls. c) At approximately the 1200m, KOTINOS (R Danielson) which commenced to over-race, was steadied and switched out to avoid running onto the heels of SAGE KING (D de Gouveia). d) Jockey M Yeni the rider of NOBLE SNIPER accidentally dropped his crop at the 100m. e) Jockey C Habib reported that ANYTIME CHAMP changed stride continually in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) Jockey D De Gouveia was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking SAGE KING more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey de Gouveia signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R750 was imposed. When assessing the penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times that Jockey De Gouveia used his crop (14) his recent record (1) as well as the position in which he finished the race (4th). g) Jockey K Matsunyane was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking EXPEDITIONER more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey Matsunyane signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R1000 was imposed. When assessing the penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times that Jockey Matsunyane used his crop (15) his recent record (1) as well as his finishing position in the race (2nd). h) DUKE OF SUSSEX (C Zackey), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M N Houdalakis advised (DR). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) SEQUOIA was ridden by Apprentice J Solomons (declared 9 June 2022 at 09H11). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) BALLON D'OR raced unshod (declared 3 June 2022 at 16H00). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) ANYTIME CHAMP coughing. b) KOTINOS blowing. c) EXPEDITIONER abnormal respiratory noise. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
