THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ROSE VELVET (J P van der Merwe) and SECOND BREATH (M Yeni) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 800m, ROSE VELVET (J P van der Merwe) had to steady when awkwardly placed on the inside of WALALA WASALA (G Lerena), which hung in and was immediately straightened. Thereafter, from the 500m, WALALA WASALA (G Lerena) continued to hang in. In view of this performance, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine WALALA WASALA. When afforded the opportunity to place on record any factors which may have accounted for the performance of WALALA WASALA, Jockey G Lerena explained that this filly had hung in throughout and that, in his opinion, she would be better suited to races over further. Trainer J J van Vuuren was requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of WALALA WASALA on return to stables b) In view of the performance of MANDALAY (*S Sosibo), (distance 3,50 lengths, betting 5/2), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. Trainer S M Naidoo was requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of MANDALAY on return to stables c) DAISY BUCHANAN (J Penny), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
