THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) SAVANNAH BUDDY (F Herholdt) stood in the stalls as the start was effected, losing many lengths.
b) FAT CIGAR (K Minnie) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) The Stewards reviewed the start of this race with regard to SAVANNAH BUDDY (F Herholdt) in stall gate 9 and were satisfied that this gelding had not been impeded in any way and took no further action.
b) Shortly after the start ESSOS (*K Strydom) and IRISH SEA (M van Rensburg) raced tight on the inside of MORSE (X Ndlovu).
c) An inquiry will be opened to establish why GOLD ROCK (R Munger) and TWICE TO HEAVEN (S Khathi) had to be steadied approaching the 150m.
d) Leaving the 50m MORSE (X Ndlovu) was bumped heavily by MHLABENI (L Mxothwa) which initially shifted out away from the crop, was straightened and thereafter shifted out sharply for no apparent reason. A member of the Stipendiary Board called a race review into this incident. However, after taking into account the proximity of this incident to the distance between MORSE (X Ndlovu) and MHLABENI (L Mxothwa) at the finish, he could not be satisfied that MORSE (X Ndlovu) would have finished in front of MHLABENI (L Mxothwa) and took no further action.
e) In view of the report from the starter regarding SAVANNAH BUDDY (F Herholdt), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable to jump on terms with a companion. Suspension dates: 25/06/2022 to 01/07/2022 inclusive). SAVANNAH BUDDY may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
f) Jockey K Minnie reported that FAT CIGAR made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
g) MHLABENI, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer DA McKenzie was advised. (SP)
h) GOLD ROCK, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee G Venter, acting on behalf of Trainer TJ Laing, was advised. (SP)
