THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PETRA (S Khumalo) kicked the back gates, was removed from the stalls, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and was subsequently withdrawn. b) IRISH BELLE (*D Geerthsen) stumbled badly leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) IRISH BELLE (*D Geerthsen) raced wide around the turn. b) At approximately the 300m, LADY YUSRA (K de Melo) had to be steadied when awkwardly placed between LADY LEGEND (*R Venniker) which was hanging out from the top of the straight and LEE EXPRESS (C Habib) which rolled inwards. Thereafter, LADY YUSRA (K de Melo) was carried in marginally by LEE EXPRESS (C Habib) which in turn was carried in marginally by ANOTHER LOVE (P Strydom) which shifted in away from the crop and was straightened. c) A race review was called into this incident by a member of the Stipendiary Board, which was followed by an objection being lodged by Jockey K de Melo on behalf of the second placed horse LADY YUSRA against the winner LEE EXPRESS (C Habib) on the grounds of interference from the 300m. After considering the evidence in this matter, the Board overruled the objection. In arriving at this decision, the Board considered that LADY LEGEND (*R Venniker) had contributed to the majority of the interference suffered by LADY YUSRA (K de Melo), and further took into account the finishing distance of 0.30 lengths between LADY YUSRA and LEE EXPRESS (C Habib) at the finish. Consequently, the Board could not be satisfied that but for the above incident, LADY YUSRA (K de Melo) would have finished ahead of LEE EXPRESS (C Habib), therefore it overruled the objection and allowed the Judge's result to stand. Jockey K de Melo's deposit was refunded. d) Jockey S Moodley reported that AREA FIFTY ONE did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) LEE EXPRESS (C Habib), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A Nassif acting on behalf of Trainer F P Habib advised (NS). f) STARBOARD (G Wright), placed fifth, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer B Forster acting on behalf of Trainer W Nel advised (DZ). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) CAPTAIN ARIANO raced with a compression mask. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) LADY YUSRA : Scalp wound left hind. b) LEE EXPRESS : Post-race distress. c) AREA FIFTY ONE : Nothing obvious detected. SCRATCHINGS : a) PETRA : Injured in the starting stalls. Withdrawn by the Veterinary Surgeon at 15h11 and the betting was 4/1. Rule 53.5 applies.
